Winter Mixed Sale Results

The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association held their Winter Mixed Sale at the Morris J. Alhadeff Sales Pavilion at Emerald Downs on December 6. The Sunday sale began at 11 a. m. The last horse was sold at 8:45 p.m.
    Top price was the $28,000 which Barclay Thoroughbreds of Portland, Oregon, paid for a yearling filly by grade one stakes winner Deposit Ticket. The filly was consigned by Seattle bloodstock agent Dick Todd, as agent for horseshoer Landis Penry of Snohomish. Overall, yearlings averaged $4,579, down 4% from last year.
    Weanlings, or foals of 1998, averaged $3,611, up 83% from last year. Highest price in that category was the $16,000 which Jill Heerensperger of Bellevue, Washington, paid for a Skywalker colt from the consignment of Blue Ribbon Farm, acting as agent for Claudia Canouse of Seattle, Washington.
    Horses of race age averaged $2,617, up 76% from last year.
    Highest priced broodmare was Stitch An A Half, a stakes winner of $176,480 consigned by Jones Farm as agent for Rick and Sharon Pasko of Kent, Washington. Ralph Vacca, as agent, purchased her in foal to the stallion Knight in Savannah for $13,000. Sixty-eight broodmares sold for an average of $2,546, down 21% from last year.
