2007 WTBA Summer Yearling Sale

COMPLETE RESULTS

The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association’s annual summer yearling sale was held on Tuesday, September 4, in the Morris J. Alhadeff Sales Pavilion located on the grounds of Emerald Downs race track.

The sale, for which 216 yearlings were cataloged, began at 1:00 p.m. and saw 145 yearlings change hands for a $2,185,100 gross and a $15,035 average. The median was $12,000. There were 20 outs.

The two highest priced individuals, both fillies, came in the last dozen hips. Topping the sale was a daughter of Marquetry out of Washington-bred stakes winner and stakes producer Tempered Dawn, who was consigned by agent Griffin Place, LLC. Agent John Brocklebank, of Santa Barbara, California, went to $80,000 to secure the dark bay Washington-bred miss.

Jerre Paxton’s Northwest Farms LLC, as agent, consigned the second highest offering, a daughter of Golden Missile out of Angie C. Stakes winner Strong Credentials, who was purchased for $75,000 by Dr. Patrick Sheehy’s Super Horse, Inc., a Newport Beach, California, based operation.

Three colts filled in the next three spots. Highest among them was a Milwaukee Brew—My Chanel colt consigned by Griffin Place, LLC, agent for partners Melissa Martin and Lynne Kelsey which was purchased by R & R Warren, LLC for $60,000. Just the day before, the Olympia-based Ron and Rosalie Warren saw their 2005 WTBA summer sale purchase Jamaica Bound finish second in the $100,000 Emerald Downs Derby.

Howard Belvoir signed the ticket for Lou Tice, who went to $55,000 to purchase the Benchmark colt out of stakes-placed and graded stakes producer Mstoyou from the consignment of Ben-Ben Farms, agent.

Dr. Duane and Sue Hopp’s Castlegate Farm sold the fifth highest offering of the evening, a colt by War Chant out of stakes winner Maria’s Mirage, who was purchased by former longtime Washington HBPA president Larry Hillis for $52,000.

The 2006 venue saw 154 yearlings sell for $2,376,300, a $15,431 average and a $10,000 median.
