Thoroughbred Racing Prospects Bring Top Dollar
At the end of the day however, it would be two Washington-breds that would fetch the highest prices. The next to last horse to pass through the sales ring, hip #216 proved to be the sale topper at $92,000. From the time the daughter of leading Washington sire Slewdledo entered the sales ring, a spirited bidding duel ensued between at least four separate interests, intent on purchasing her. When the hammer fell, the dark bay filly found a new home with Emerald Downs president Ron Crockett. Sold by her breeders, Ken and Patricia Paulson of Granger, WA, she was part of the Bar C Racing Stable consignment. The second highest price was the $90,000 paid for hip #138, a Washington-bred colt by California based sire Beau Genius. Consigned by Northwest Farms of Yakima, WA, on behalf of breeders Rick and Sharon Pasko of Kent, WA, she was purchased by Jeff Bonde of Pleasanton, CA. A total of 151 head were sold for gross receipts of $2,546,800, a 2.6 percent increase over last year's total. The average price ($16,866) and median price ($13,000) also rose slightly. The gross receipts represent the highest total at this venue since 2000 and the average price is the highest figure recorded since 2001. Click here
