WTBA Winter Mixed Sale Results
Favorite Trick colt brings
$31,000; yearlings buoy averages
ueled by a strong yearling
market, the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association annual Winter Mixed
Sale, staged December 7, posted solid gains across the board in comparison to
the numbers registered at last year's venue.
Total receipts were $728,600 for the 152 head
sold, an average of $4,793. The gross and average were up 31% and 44%
respectively from 2002 numbers. Median price, the figure at which half the
horses sold for more and half sold for less, was $2,700, which was up 23%. The
yearling average of $6,547 was up 70% from last years $3,841.
Topping the sale at $31,000 was hip #51, a
Kentucky-bred yearling colt by Favorite Trick out of stakes performer Gold
Card. Consigned by Woods Creek Training Center, she was purchased by Robert
Hilden of Olympia, WA.
Top price for a Washington-bred was the $28,000
paid for hip #57, a colt by Basket Weave--Heather Georgina. Consigned by
Halvorson Bloodstock as agent for Char Clark Thoroughbreds, the yearling went
home with John Brocklebank of Riverton, Utah.
The highest priced filly was hip #129, a
daughter of Louis Quatorze--Adornment who fetched $26,000. The Kentucky-bred
yearling was consigned by McMurray Thoroughbred Services, agent, and was
purchased by Harold Belvoir, agent.
Next in line at $25,000 was hip #138, a British
Columbia bred yearling by Victory Gallop--Bobett. The filly was consigned by
Orange Blossom Farm and was purchased by trainer Sharon Ross on behalf of
client Rick Beal.
The second highest price for a Washington-bred
was the $24,000 paid for hip #118, a daughter of Cahill Road from the
stakes-winning matron That Knight. Consigned by Tall Cedars Farm, agent for
Ginger Gamblin, she was purchased by Robert Rizzo of Huntington Beach, CA.
