WTBA Yearling Sale Records
Gains
he Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Associations annual
yearling sale staged September 3 at Emerald Downs posted modest gains in
average and gross receipts. The final tally saw 146 head sold from the 204 that
passed through the ring for a total of $2,480,600. The gross reflects an 8.3%
increase and the average price of $16,990 is about 1% higher than last year's
numbers.
The number of repurchases (RNA)
dipped slightly to 28%, defying the national trend thus far this year.
Topping the sale was hip #173
(pictured above) at $120,000, a strapping son of Siphon and a half-brother to
Washington champion Al Renee that sold to Tim McMurry, agent. McMurry also
signed the ticket on hip #153 for $100,000 on a daughter of Smart Strike. Both
purchases were on behalf of Stanley Fulton, owner of Sunland Park Racetrack and
Casino in New Mexico and both were consigned by Northwest Farms of Yakima, WA.
The next highest price was the
$62,000 paid for hip # 154, a sleek filly by Cees Tizzy. She was offered
for sale by Fell Hill Farm and purchased by Emerald Downs CEO Ron Crockett.
