WTBA Mixed Sale
Posts Mixed Results

The first horse to pass through the ring proved to be the sale topper, an early indicator that the annual Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association Mixed Sale would not go as expected.

For as long as most can remember, the WTBA mixed sale has always been a winter venue, staged in December. Placed on the calendar in October this year, the results had some calling the move experimental.

With the first horse withdrawn, hip #2, a juvenile filly by Basket Weave out of That Knight fetched the top bid of the day at $24,000. A full sister to five-time stakes winner Enduring Knight, she was consigned by Tall Cedars Farm of Enumclaw, WA, and purchased by trainer Jim penny on behalf of Homestretch Farm.

Hip #163 seemed to be the most popular yearling, bringing a final bid of $23,000 from Dana Morton of Ennis, MT. By He’s Tops, out of Takeaway, the colt is a full brother to recent Keeneland allowance winner Youcan'ttakeme. He was consigned by Woodstead Farm of Chehalis, WA.

Next in line was hip #92, a filly by Devil His Due from Knight’s Song. Consigned by Eugene Hammersmith, agent, on behalf of Rod Nuckolls, she was purchased for $22,000 by K.K. Sangara of Surrey, Brithish Columbia.

He's Top, proving a popular young sire, was also well represented by hip #104, a colt out of McKala Miss that sold for $20,000. Consigned by Willowmont Farms, he was purchased by Ron Crockett.

Total receipts of $593,000 for the 168 head sold equates to an average of $3,530, a decline of 8 percent from last year. The median price of $2,200, represents a 2 percent decline. On the positive side, repurchases (RNA’s) also declined slightly to 16 percent.
